How did you like doing your independent research project?
I somewhat enjoyed the independent research project. The actual making of the dress was an entertaining and enjoyable process, but I felt that it was somewhat rushed and didn’t seem to be very relevant. With such an open project, everyone did such different things, and the math aspect was somewhat lost.
What did you like and what didn’t you like?
While it was fun, I felt that it was not the most in depth or flushed out project. The timeline on the project made it feel that we had a very small amount of time to actually do the proper research and complete a decent project.
What would you change about this project, if anything?
I would change the timeline of this project. I feel that we did not have enough time in the process of researching quality concepts as well as creating the actual product. Also, I feel tha if there was a more common concept that the projects had to relate to, the end results would have been better.
What did you learn about your research topic?
I looked at math in fashion and found the amount of math that exists in fashion. Things like fractals, geometry parabolas, etc. all exist in fashion. The poof of a dress can actually create a parabola, that is what we used in our dress. We found the circumference and parabolic line of our dress while creating a geometric back to the dress. It was interesting to see how much math affects fashion.
Math 3 reflection
I did not set specific goals for myself this year, but I feel that I did quite well this year. I am taking two math classes, and in Math 3 I was able to go past what we were working on at the time. I feel that I am confident in my abilities as a math student. I can understand concepts and problem solve often. This class was not very challenging with its workload and I felt that I was able to manage it along with other classes. I am planning on taking Calculus and Math 4 next year, both which I feel that I am quite prepared for.

POW REFLECTION
Within our unit, we completed multiple POW's (Problems of the Week). I have included the two that I have felt the proudest of. For my first POW, I included POW 3: Planning the Platforms. I quite enjoyed this POW. Instead of finding a definitive answer we had to find different formulas, from scratch, to solve the problems that we were posed with. In this POW coming up with our second formula seemed to be the most difficult part. I am quite proud of this POW because even though there were many moments of trial and error, I was able to persevere and find two working formulas.
The second POW that I included was POW 2: King Arthur's Table. For this POW I worked in a group with four of my peers. Together we worked out this problem. We charted the winning seat of each round up to around round 30. We then created a formula to generalize the problem. The way that we collaborated and came up with our formula/answer is what makes me quite proud of this POW. I had a fun time collaborating and going through the whole process.

Semester Reflection
I feel that this semester I met my goals. I wanted to be able to help my peers while refreshing previously learned content and new content. I felt that I was able to understand most of the content and when I was stuck I was able to ask for help from Hannah and my peers. I felt that within this semester I was able to solidify content that I have learned in the past. Content such as factoring and FOILing is something that I am very comfortable, and I felt that reviewing it this semester helped me refresh my knowledge. This allowed me to help my classmates understand as well. In the upcoming semester, I am hoping that I will be able to work at a pace that more suits my skill level. I also want to be a more readily available resource for my classmates to collaborate with. I have high hopes for the second semester.
